Creative Holiday Centerpiece 'GIFT' to Give

Hi! What are you giving away this Thanksgiving? .. dinner ... party ... hugs .. cookies ... visiting ... hosting ... cooking ... catering. How about giving a special gift to your family, friends, and guests this holiday season. What do I have in mind? The decoration inspiration for today is 'gifting' a tree. Did I write TREE? Yes!

Check out this photo below (courtesy of BHG):

You can place the Tree decor gift:
  • as a centerpiece for a dinner party
  • on top of your table setting (center of the plates to surprise your guests)
  • in your foyer's console table when guests come over
  • in your co-workers cubicle (yes, decorate their cubicle)

You can wrap your Tree decor gift:

  • with burlap fabric (see above picture)
  • with any economical festive fabric you can find
  • in wrapping paper or kraft paper

And for the ADDED SPLASH of DECOR, find leaves on long branches and insert them in your gift wrap for the lovely visual impact that shoes the future ... a tree. So where on earth do you 'buy a tree'? You can get a tree in a tube with planting instructions from:

http://www.arborday.org/shopping/giftTrees/step1.cfm for about $3.00 each. Yes, only $3 buckaroos.

So what are you waiting for? Get ready to go on the mission ... to FIND LEAVES on branches :) I hope you enjoyed today's Decoration Inspiration with the decor that keeps on giving ... life. ~ Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!

Economical Ideas to Decorate Your Table and Chairs this Thanksgiving!

The holidays are around the corner .. yaaaah! Right now I am having my yummy holiday coffee - caramel apple coffee - d e l i c i o u s! Today's post reveals ECONOMICAL touches of decor that you can EASILY implement in your home this holiday. Ready for some decoration inspiration? Below pics are courtesy of Better Homes and Garden (I love their magazines!!!) with my comments (decoration inspiration for you!). This holiday:

Decorate your dining CHAIRS:
The decor does not have to be extravagant (expensive). Actually many times, LESS looks MORE elegant. So this holiday, tie a special decor to your chair, such as:
  • tie a ribbon or bow with leaves (leaves that you gather from outside your home)
  • one flower on each chair (buy an bouquet and divide the flowers)
  • a gift tag (thank you for coming note hand written).
Start collecting those 'tie-thingies' we get at the groceries (usually on bread bags) and REUSE them to tie YOUR special decor onto your chair (see pic above to view the 'tie'thingie'). Is your chair not an open design, then .... tape or velcro ... to the decor rescue!

Decorate your dining TABLE:

This holiday, decorate your table with FRUIT! This is one of my favorite centerpieces. Why?
1. it is economical AND
2. it is delicious decor AND
3. it is healthy edible decor (don't cheat ... go for the REAL fruit, not plastic non edible, and be the 1st one to eat it at your table and your quests will follow)

Well, I have to run now (my coffee break is over). Thank you for spendign this time with me! ~ Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!

Decorate with Yummy Cranberries this holiday!

This holiday season set your dinner table creatively and economically with cranberries (in the Unites States, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas is around the corner). Check out this simple YET creative table setting with cranberries:

For Thanksgiving:
it is a perfect setting since many people love eating turkey with delicious cranberries (jam - yummmm!)

For Christmas:
it has the festive 'RED' color

The only difficult part is keeping you family and quests from reaching over to EAT your design! One last tip .... have FUN! ~ Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!

This holiday try WRAPPING your wall shelves! Huh?

Yes, you read correctly! This holiday season try something extremely different, extremely creative, and extremely economical . . .

Wrap your wall shelves! Besides giving you practice so you can improve your gift wrapping ability, it CREATIVELY shows off your shelves. Take a peek at these 'gift' wrapped shelves:

Maybe try wrapping paper that has:
- cool words written across the paper (and have your shelves TALK) : )
- festive designs (a turkey, Santa Claus, Christmas Tree, etc. etc.)
- funky geometric design
or
- a simple color that YOU LOVE (perfect for the minimalist style look)

It is super-duper economical to do. And hey, you may even have wrapping paper in your home RIGHT NOW that you can use - so go get those scissors, tape, and wrapping paper, and HAVE FUN! ~ Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!

Fabric ... yummy yummy ... fabric!

Hi! No, I am not munching on fabric ... though I confess that I (like many interior decorators) feel like a kid in a candy store when we visit fabric stores ... so many yumminess, so little time!!

A few days ago I mentioned Calico Corners as a great store where you can get your custom made pillow. Did you know that you can also choose the PERFECT furniture for your room (perfect in size, shape, and style) and have it decorated with your FAVORITE fabric from Calico Corners (http://www.calicocorners.com/)?

Check out their website and view the tons of fabric selections that they have. PLUS, you can get FREE swatch samples of the fabric from them so you can drool ... I mean .. view them in person. Here are a few more fabric sneak peeks to inspire you:

Have a beautiful COLORFUL day! Until my next post ~Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!

What to do when you cannot find the perfect toss pillow?

Hi! Toss pillows are a great way to add a FRESH new look to your sofa, all seats, and bed. They are also a great way to incorporate a SPLASH of color. But what do you do when you search and search and cannot find the PERFECT decor toss pillow?

You create your own! Like this bolster here:

Ok, ok since not everyone is born with a sewing-gene in their DNA. There is a wonderful vendor where you can simply pick out the fabric and the pillow style you want and they will create it for you! Yes, that simple. The store is http://www.calicocorners.com/

For all those of you blog subscribers who live in a warm weather (lucky lucky lucky you!!.. as I write this post sipping my cup of hot cocoa trying to warm up from another chilly day in New York) and want a new outdoor fabric look, here are a few fabric inspirations to view (available at http://www.calicorcorners.com/):

Have fun viewing all the possibilities to add a splash of style that represents your personality! ~ Hugs, Ada . Interior Decorator for the Star in You!
